Foods To Keep Cancer Risk At A Minimum

Cancer, a deadly and incurable disease, is primarily characterized by the abnormal growth of the cells that in turn harm the body in numerous ways. There are nearly more than 100 of the different cancer types with the most prevailing ones being the following.

  • Breast cancer
  • Skin cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Prostate cancer

Few of the factors that can increase a person’s risk for developing cancer are as follows.

  • Aging
  • Excessive smoking
  • Excessive sunlight exposure
  • Obesity
  • Secondhand smoke
  • Genetics

While it is nearly impossible to stop the risk of developing cancer from environmental factors and genetics, a person can still decrease their risk of developing the disease from other factors. In fact, a well planned healthy diet is one way to prevent various types of cancer.

In this regard, we present some foods to keep the cancer risk at a minimum.

Broccoli

Broccoli a cruciferous vegetable is paced with a substance named glucosinolates which stimulates the production of a protective enzyme in the body. One of these enzymes is named sulforaphane which effectively reduces the risk of developing cancer by flushing out any harmful cancer-causing chemicals. In addition to this, sulforaphane also attacks the stem cells of cancer that aids the growth of tumors.

Broccoli has been studied to be an effective vegetable for reducing the risk of developing the following cancer types.

  • Mouth
  • Lung
  • Breast
  • Liver
  • Bladder
  • Stomach

Tomatoes

Tomato is a juicy fruit which is packed with antioxidant named lycopene that fights the cancer-causing cells. It provides a boost to the body’s natural immune system and allows it to protect the cells in the body from getting damaged.

In addition to this, it stops the abnormal growth of these cells as well as being a great source for antioxidants such as Vitamin A, E, and C that help the body from not receiving any free radical cell damage.

Tomatoes have been studied to be effective against following cancer risks.

  • Endometrial
  • Breast
  • Lung
  • Stomach

Blueberries

Blueberries are a super fruit that is enriched with not only antioxidants but also the cancer-fighting phytonutrients. Blueberries help to neutralize the free radicals that can cause serious damage to the cells that can, in turn, lead to cancer. In addition to this, blueberries are also packed with following nutrients that aid it in lowering down the risk of developing cancer.

  • Vitamin C

  • Manganese
  • Dietary fiber

Garlic

Garlic comes with the following compounds that are all extremely helpful in reducing the risk of a person developing cancer.

Various studies on garlic have led to the belief that it can reduce the risk of developing cancers such as colorectal and stomach ones.
