Ringworm, quite contrary to its name is a condition which occurs due to a fungal infection rather than an actual worm. The condition starts showing its sign with a circular spot starting to appear with a smooth center that expands with tie on skin. These skin patches tend to grow with an average size of 1 inch and can also make an appearance on different parts of the body.
The main cause for this fungal infection is a fungus which is called dermatophyte and mostly thrives in places which have more perspiration like the following body parts.
- Scalp
- Groin
- Buttocks
- Feet
- Legs
- Upper thighs
Not only adults but also kids of ages in between 4 to 8 years are also prone to being infected with ringworm and that is why we have decided to bring some home remedies for treatment of ringworms in kids.
Lavender Essential Oil
The first remedy is the use of Lavender oil as it carries strong antifungal properties which aid in stopping the growth of ringworm fungus. In addition to eliminating the source of infection, the oil also helps to decrease the symptoms like inflammation, itching and discoloration of the skin as well.
You can apply the lavender oil on kids of all ages by diluting the 1 to 3 drops of oil in 1 tsp of jojoba carrier oil. Massage the affected area three times each day.
Topical use of Tea Tree Oil
Another oil that is helpful in treating ringworms is the Tea Tree oil as it also contains strong antifungal properties. Tea tree oil actually is more potent than the lavender oil as it eliminates the root of fungus completely. Like lavender oil, it also alleviates the symptoms such as itching and inflammation associated with ringworms.
Simply dab some tea tree oil on a ball of cotton and rub the affected skin area with it a few times a day.
Moisturization with Coconut Oil
Another great remedy to treat the ringworm condition is to rub the ringworm affected skin with coconut oil. Coconut oil contains fatty acids which help to kill the disease-carrying fungi from the root. This is done by damaging the cell membranes of such fungi.
In addition to this, coconut oil has strong Moisturization properties which when rubbed on the skin, helps to provide relief from itchiness as well as provide skin healing of the lesions.
Rub the affected skin a few times each day with some extra virgin coconut oil.
Licorice Solution
Licorice has been used in ancient Chinese medical practice for skin treatment due to its potent fungicidal compounds that are beneficial for the treatment of skin infections like ringworms.
- Pour 1 cup of water in a saucepan and add in it 6 tsp of licorice solution.

- Strain the liquid and let it cool down.
- Now soak a piece of cotton and rub it over the affected area
