When people talk about oral health they mostly refer to them having pearly white teeth which have no cavities. However, what most people do not know that having white teeth is not enough and that you also need to have strong gums that actually play a great role in maintaining the root of your teeth and hold them in their place.
When gums are not taken care of properly, their tissues wear away, causing them to be sensitive and prone to certain damage.
The destruction of the gums is called gingival recession in medical terms or most commonly known as Gum Recession.

Oil Pulling
Gum pulling has been recorded as one of the most effective remedies for having great oral health along with treatment of various other dental disorders. Oil pulling has also been beneficial in the treatment of receding gums.
It is best to use only coconut oil when performing oil pulling as it not only coats the teeth in a protective layer but also prevent any plaque build up.
- Put 1 tbsp of coconut oil in your mouth.
- Swirl and swish this coconut oil for 10 minutes
- Spit it out and rinse the mouth with some lukewarm water
Rinsing with Bee Propolis
Bee propolis is actually the sticky glue-like resin which bees use to make their hives but it is also known for its effectiveness in treating receding gums.
Bee propolis is packed with not only antibacterial but also antifungal properties that allow it to be a great way for getting rid of the bacteria in the mouth that can lead to several dental disorders.
- Rinse the mouth with bee Propolis at least 2 times each day. It can be easily bought from any local market.
- In addition to raw bee Propolis, bee Propolis capsules are also available in the market.
Baking Soda mouthwash
Using mouthwash is another way to maintain good oral health and nothing works as great as a baking soda mouthwash. It helps the mouth to be cleared from both bacteria and fungal infections all thanks to its antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Baking soda or also known as sodium bicarbonate is cleaners for the mouth which works by neutralizing the acid production inside the mouth. It also acts as an antiseptic to prevent the mouth from developing infections.
- Add 1 tbsp of baking soda powder in a glass of water
- Add in this solution 4 drops of the peppermint oil
- Now add in 2 drops of tea tree oil
- Mix the solution well and then use it as a mouthwash 2 times a day
Turmeric Paste
Turmeric has also been proven to be an amazing remedy for the treatment of receding gums. ‘Turmeric has the main compound in it called Curcumin which has its own anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This allows turmeric to provide relief from pain as well as inflammation and swelling associated with dental infections.
Mix half a tsp of turmeric powder in some water to make a thick paste. Apply this over your gums with your finger. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Massage the gums in a gentle manner for few minutes and rinse it out with lukewarm water.
Indian Gooseberry
Indian Gooseberry or also known as the Amla also has a beneficial effect on receding gums problem.
It is packed with Vitamin C that provides strength and support to the receding gums as well as combats against the bacteria in the mouth that cause the teeth to be decayed and have cavities.
- Simply chewing thoroughly on some Amlas can do the trick.
