Natural Remedies to treat Eczema in Children

Atopic Dermatitis or also more commonly known as Eczema is a non-contagious inflammatory disease of human skin. Normally 30 percent of the world population is affected by it which mostly includes young children and teenagers. The skin in this condition has common characteristics like the following.

Moisturizer

For children, suffering from Eczema it is best to use moisturizers on their skin which is essential in the winter season. In winter, skin becomes drier than it often does. While you can use any artificial moisturizer, there are still some other natural alternatives as well as the following.

  • Sunflower seed oil
  • Coconut oil

Both these oils can be used for topical massage as well as for consumption.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal is the oats that have been grounded into a powdered form and they are extremely helpful in treating eczema in children.

With its following properties, Colloidal oatmeal helps treat eczema effectively in young children.

  • Soothing
  • Take 1 cup of Colloidal oatmeal and add it in a bathtub full of lukewarm water. Soak your kid in the water for 20 minutes and perform this remedy at least 1 time a day. It can be performed even more depending on the condition.
  • Another method is to make a paste of the Colloidal oatmeal by adding little amount of water in some Colloidal oatmeal. Apply this pasty mixture over the affected skin and cover it with a cloth for at least half an hour. Afterward, rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Evening Primrose Oil

Although studies on Evening primrose oil show mixed results, there still have been positive effects of its use on eczema. Evening primrose oil is enriched with fatty acids that are not only great for eczema treatment but also for healthy and normal skin functioning.

The Evening primrose oil can be sued for both topical and oral use.

Look out for food Allergens

One of the major causes of Eczema among children is food allergens. If a parent suspects that their child’s eczema is due to food allergy then an allergy test is in order.

In most cases, eczema takes a few days before the symptoms start to appear and thus the only way to find out the specific food allergen is to perform the Elimination Diet.

Carefully note and remove the foods that might trigger eczema in your chill for a few weeks and take note of changes in the symptoms of your kid’s health.

Probiotics

Probiotics are the healthy an essential bacteria for the body that are housed in the human gut. These probiotics are also helpful in strengthening the child’s immune system.

Giving your kid probiotics 2 times each day is an effective remedy for treating eczema.
