Things You Shouldn’t Do on an Empty Stomach

There is a saying, “You are what you eat” by which people often means that what you eat has effects on your overall health.

Today we are going to tell our readers about a few things that should not be consumed on an empty stomach.

Take anti-inflammatories

Following should never be taken on an empty stomach.

  • Aspirin
  • Paracetamol
  • NSAIDs  (other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)

If you take them on an empty stanch, not only will they lose their effectiveness but will also result in serious health issues like Gastric Bleeding.

It is best advised to drink milk when taking NSAIDs as it will reduce their negative effects on an empty stomach. In case you do not have milk, make sure to drink plenty of water when taking these NSAIDs.

Drink coffee

Forget the normal coffee, even the decaffeinated coffee can stimulate the production of acids in the stomach that might result in problems like heartburn and digestive tract issues if drank on an empty stomach. If you skip breakfast and only suffice on coffee for breakfast, then be advised as it will lead to the serotonin deficiency and the rest of your day will be gloomy.

For those who can only start their mornings with coffee, they should drink it by adding some milk or cream. The milk fat helps reduce the negative effects of coffee. Instead of using dried coffee, try using natural coffee.

Drink alcohol

The absorption rate of alcohol consumption increases by a factor of 2 if it is consumed on an empty stomach. While the absorption process is doubled, the breakdown process is inversely slowed down by a factor o 2 as well which leads to a severe hangover.

Chew gum

When chewing gum on an empty stomach, the digestive acids produced by both mouth and stomach destroy the protective lining of the stomach. If this is a prolong habit, it might lead to Gastritis. A study has also roved the results that people who chew gum are preferable towards junk food like candies and French fries.

Chew on gum that contains artificial sweeteners like Xylitol and Sorbitol which are less harmful to human health instead of those that have in the sugar, cyclamate, or aspartame. It is also advised to not chew gum for more than 10 minutes even when you have a full stomach.

Go to bed

People who tend to sleep hungry have low glucose levels that are actually causing a superficial sleep and eventually will result in early awakening. The lack of sleep also tends to increase the level of hunger hormones in the human body. This is the reason if a person skips a meal for one day; they might eat more the next day.

Intense training

There is a common misconception that intense workout and training sessions with an empty stomach help body burn more calories. In reality, it does not have anything to do with fat loss and instead leads to muscle loss. The intensity of the workout is also lessened due to lack of energy.

Drink citrus juice

Citrus fruits contain acid and tough fibers that irritate the stomach if drunk on an empty stomach. The can often lead to gastritis or might at least put you on risk to develop it.

A freshly squeezed Citrus Fruit juice is only beneficial if a person dilutes it with water in a 1:1 ratio.
